This is an interview with Kelli Minge, Summer 2026 intern with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.
Where did you intern this past summer, and what was your role?
This past summer, I interned at the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. I was an educator for the South Arkansas Region and a part of the Becoming an Outdoors Woman Program.
How did you find out about this internship opportunity?
I had previously volunteered for the Arkansas Game and Fish, and some of their employees told me that they offer internships. I then kept checking their website for openings and applying where I could.
Did this experience change your career goals or perspective on your field?
I have shifted what I want to do with my life. For the longest time, I thought I was always going to be doing some type of research-related field, but I have discovered that I enjoy working with the public a lot more.
How did this internship help you grow professionally and personally?
This internship helped me learn how to work in a professional environment and become more comfortable communicating and working with others. I learned how to adapt to new situations, solve problems, and take responsibility for my work.
Did you have opportunities to network with professionals in your industry?
My internship allowed me to meet people in every division of AGFC. It allowed me to work on projects with experienced professionals whom I can reach out to further down the road in my career.
What was the best advice you received from a mentor or supervisor?
Be selfish; this internship is not only there to benefit your mentor by getting some extra help, but also to help you learn new things. Take every opportunity to ask questions and participate in events. You still have so much that you don’t know, and the best thing you can do is take advantage of the information offered to you.
What advice would you give to students looking for internships?
Be open to anything! You may end up liking a position more than you thought you would!
How did SAU Career Services help you with your internship search or preparation?
Before applying, I sat down with Mallory Cain to review and edit my resume. This led me to receive multiple interview invitations, and I then participated in some mock interviews to help me prepare. Without some of the practice, I would not have landed the internship offers I received.

Kelli is a senior Wildlife and Conservation Biology major at SAU. She is a member of Phi Mu and is the treasurer of the Fish and Wildlife Club at SAU.
